A wall night light for the nursery: how to choose one
A night light on the wall gives soft light at bedtime and leaves the bedside table free for a book and a cuddly toy. A Hartendief wall lamp does one more thing. By day it's a picture on the wall. Switch it on in the evening and a hidden starry sky appears, with animals you couldn't see before.

Why a night light on the wall?
- Nothing in the way on the bedside table or changing table.
- The light falls softly across the wall, gentle on sleepy eyes.
- By day the lamp is part of the room, like a picture.
What to look for
Size
Most Hartendief wall lamps are 45 cm across. The Rainbow wall lamp is 35 × 37 cm. Lovely above the bed, next to the changing table or in a reading corner.
Cord and switch
They come with a white 1.70 m cord with an on/off switch, so you can switch the light on and off without walking to the switch by the door.
Hanging
The lamps are flat, open at the sides and sit about 10 cm from the wall. Hang them on a screw or hook. Two hooks hold the lamp more firmly, so curious little hands can't easily pull it down.
The bulb
They take a bulb with a small E14 fitting, up to 30 watts. As a night light, a low-wattage bulb such as 15 watts works best.
Pick a world your child loves
- Sleepy Moon: Bear, Fox and the little rabbits gaze up at a thousand stars.
- Moonkiss: Bear and his friends climb up to the moon.
- Sweet Dreams: the moon sleeps, and in the light the deer drink by the lake.
- Little Star: Bear and Little Bear sail across the sea in a glowing crescent moon.
- Turtle Dream: an underwater world with Turtle and Polar Bear.
- Summer Night: elves and fireflies dance in the forest.

Lights on as a bedtime ritual
Pyjamas on, a story together, then the big light goes off and the wall lamp comes on. What can you see tonight? Who's awake and who's already asleep? A ritual like this makes bedtime predictable and cosy. For more ideas, read Afraid of the dark? How to help your child.
Add a starry sky
The Glow in the Dark Starry Sky stickers are 30 stars in all kinds of shapes. Soft pastel yellow by day, they glow gently green in the dark. When the wall lamp goes off, the stars take over. The Sleepy Moon Bundle and the Sweet Dreams Bundle come with free white star stickers.
